Environmental Economics and Management
How do we find solutions to the world´s growing environmental problems? Would you like a career dealing with environmental issues in national or international businesses?
We are becoming more aware of our responsibility in the use and management of our environment. We need knowledge to find solutions to the growing environmental problems, such as pollution and depleted resources. This master's program will make it possible for you to develop the knowledge and skills needed to deal with these important issues.
Knowledge and understanding of our biological natural resources and our sustainable use of them needed. In this program you will increase your knowledge of economics or business administration and learn how this knowledge can be applied to environmental issues. Thanks to SLU's extensive contacts with natural resource based companies are training very up to date and to reality. Contact with established companies makes it easier to understand and to use economics and business administration as a tool to deal with current problems.
What you read on the program
Depending on your major (either business administration or economics), you will develop your understanding and your knowledge in local and global use and management of natural resources. You will learn to solve complex problems both from different perspectives, with a focus on promoting sustainable development. With business administration major you will study environmental management, production economics, quantitative finance, strategic management, environmental risk management, accounting and ethics. If you choose economics as your major, you will instead develop your understanding of microeconomic theory, environmental policy, econometrics, evaluation and sustainable development. Part of the program is jointly organized by Uppsala University.
This program is for students with a bachelor's degree in business administration or economics who wish to extend their understanding of environmental resource issues. After completing the training you will have the knowledge and expertise to address environmental issues in national and international companies and organizations, government agencies and other organizations in the public sector. As an economist with a profiling the environmental and natural resources, there are plenty of job opportunities in the industry, media, consulting firms, government agencies, international organizations and political bodies. You will also be well prepared to read on to a PhD degree.
